The new PokerStars Live at the City of Dreams event saw its finale over the weekend with the completion of the Red Dragon Main Event. The prestigious tournament was the largest of its kind was won by Taiwanese poker professional Terry Fan. The 30-year-old emerged victorious from a record field of 891 and won the cash prize of HK$1,771,000, which is roughly $230,000.

Three Day 1s were arranged for players, who paid HK$11,000 to be part of the event, meaning that the 635-player record in Asia would likely be smashed. In the end the tournament record for the continent was indeed smashed and in the process, generated a huge HK$8,746,412 prize pool, which would equate to approximately $1,100,000 in the US.

The final day saw Fan hold a chip lead at the head of the final table and eventually found himself against Gie Reyes of the Philippines heads-up, with Fan out-chipping his opponent by rough 2-1. The final hand saw Reyes push all in with K8, called by Fan’s A5. Reyes flopped an 8, but Fan eventually saw victory when he rivered an ace giving him top pair and victory at the tournament.

Fan who earned a huge HK$1,771,000 for his efforts and Reyes took a princely HK$1,242,000 for his runner-up finish.
