Mum who won £148m on lottery going back to work to run kids' play centre
A mum of two who won a £148million lottery jackpot is going back to work – running a children’s play centre.
Gillian Bayford, 40, and husband Adrian, 41, retired after their amazing EuroMillions windfall but have decided to buy the failing business in their home town.
She said: “At the moment there’s nothing for children around here.
"We wanted to give them somewhere to go. We’re hoping to bring back some fun.”
Gillian, who has a son and a daughter, said she will be at Rascals Funhouse in Haverhill, Suffolk, one or two days a week.
She is currently personally recruiting staff ready for the May 4 opening.
She and Adrian had to scrimp and save in the past to pay for their children’s birthday parties at the centre, which was then known as Cheeky Chimps.
She added: “Times were tight but we made a point of trying to budget for it and get the party they wanted.
"Both of them had half of their class there, they had a great time.”
Gillian quit her job as a healthcare assistant after the win in August.
Adrian decided to close his music shop after people wanting money began camping outside.
The couple are now number 516 on the Sunday Times rich list and live in a £6million mansion.
But they still have the same friends and have not moved their kids to private school.
Gillian said: “We’ve tried not to let it change us. My main aims are still my friends, family and children.
"No matter how much money you have, you wouldn’t be anybody without friends and family behind you.” |
