Andy’s hedge on casino vote
Gov. Cuomo says asking voters to legalize casino gambling this year may be a bad bet.
The governor said yesterday he’s worried that a potentially big New York City turnout for the mayoral election could ruin his chances of passing a referendum that calls for casinos upstate.
“New York City has no vested interest because there would be no casinos in New York City,” Cuomo said at a Cabinet meeting yesterday, adding he’s considering delaying the vote until the 2014 statewide elections.
Cuomo’s initial plan calls for just three casinos upstate to boost economic development in depressed regions. |
