Joseph Cheong Wins Manila Millions Super High Roller

A small, but incredibly stacked field of 18 put up the HK $1 million buy-in ($128,799) for the Asian Poker Tour Manila Millions high roller event in the Phillipines.

The tournament featured pros such as Joe Hachem, Sam Trickett, Andrew Robl, Philipp Gruissem, Nam Le and eventual bubble boy David Benefield, but the title ultimately went to American pro Joseph Cheong, who scored the HK $10,428,000 ($1,343,122) first-place prize.

Cheong now has $7,981,768 in career live tournament earnings, putting him in 30th place all time right behind Jason Mercier. This number is even more impressive considering that he has only been playing on the live tournament circuit since the middle of 2009.

This was the third final table of 2013 for Cheong. Last week, he finished runner-up in the World Series of Poker Asia Pacific AUD $50,000 high roller for AUD $511,000 ($534,776).

For the win, Cheong earned a modest 600 Card Player Player of the Year points. When added to the 425 points he earned last week, Cheong now has a total of 1,025 points, good enough for 45th place overall.
